Distinct in flavor, the San Marzano tomato originally came from the Sarnese Nocerino area of Italy, renowned for its especially fruitful soil as a result of its proximity to Mount Vesuvius.

Meaty and flavorful, you can't go wrong with this tomato.  You could grow one of the many varieties of plum tomato hybrids on the market and get more production, but you can't beat the flavor of an original.
